Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit awkwardaf.store or buy from us, why, and what your rights are. We keep it to what we actually need.

Who we are

The data controller is Dan Hall, trading as Awkward AF, 24 Peacock Grove, Costessey, Norwich, NR8 5GT, United Kingdom. Contact: erm.hello@awkwardaf.store.

What we collect

  • Order information: your name, email, shipping and billing address, phone number (if given), and what you ordered.
  • Payment information: processed securely by our payment providers. We never see or store your full card details.
  • Communications: anything you send us by email or through forms on the site.
  • Marketing preferences: if you sign up to our emails.
  • Device and usage information: such as IP address, browser, pages viewed and how you reached the site, collected through cookies and similar technologies.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

  • To process and deliver your order and handle any problems with it (performance of a contract).
  • To keep records for tax and accounting (legal obligation).
  • To run, secure and improve the site, and prevent fraud (legitimate interests).
  • To send marketing emails if you've opted in. You can unsubscribe at any time (consent).
  • To measure and personalise advertising on social media and search, where you've accepted the relevant cookies (consent).

Who we share it with

We only share what's needed with service providers who help us run the business:

  • Shopify, which hosts our store and processes orders.
  • Our print-on-demand partner (PODpartner), which prints and ships your order and receives your name, address, contact details and order details for that purpose.
  • Payment providers, such as Shopify Payments, which process your payment.
  • Delivery carriers appointed by our print partner.
  • Analytics and advertising platforms such as Google, Meta (Facebook and Instagram), TikTok and Pinterest, where you've consented to cookies.

We don't sell your personal information.

International transfers

Some of these providers are based outside the UK, including in the United States, Canada and China, where our print partner operates. Where we transfer personal data outside the UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses.

Cookies

We use essential cookies to make the site and checkout work. With your consent we also use analytics and marketing cookies. You can change your choices at any time through the cookie banner or your browser settings.

How long we keep it

We keep order records for 6 years for tax purposes. Marketing data is kept until you unsubscribe. Other information is kept only as long as needed for the purposes above.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, to restrict or object to how we use it, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To use any of these rights, email erm.hello@awkwardaf.store. We'll respond within one month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
